The Shore is a first-person narrative-based adventure game from indie developer, Ares Dragonis. It is a survival horror game based on Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos and follows a fisherman who lost his daughter in a shipwreck. Following her trail, he ventures on an unknown island, where he will encounter all sorts of strange creatures that he needs to face to survive. The Shore features strong horror elements that will question even your sanity.

Face the unknown

The Shore explores the mystery of the unknown and what humans do when facing horrors. As noted, the whole story of the game is based on mythology that goes deep through Lovecraft’s creation and beyond. Through the eyes of the fisherman, players will experience a fantastical world through atmospheric gameplay. Aside from surviving creatures who are out to get you, you also need to solve mind-blowing puzzles to save his daughter. 

You can traverse the game map by walking, running, or even diving underwater. As you explore the island, you can pick up weapons that you can use to face the horrors that you will encounter along the way. There are also lasers produced by some structures that can help you beat the enemy. Aside from weapons, you need to collect artifacts scattered over the world and use them right to uncover the hidden knowledge of the unknown dimension. 

Even in its demo stage, this game showcases an atmosphere that is an authentic Lovecraftian ambient. The game is consistently cold and unforgiving, emulating the human’s fear of venturing out into the unknown. Complementing the tones is the background music, with its stretched sounds of choir and orchestra. Everything in the game speaks of a chilling mystery.
